Honor is putting video at the heart of its upcoming Magic 9 series. The company has confirmed a new cinematic video system developed with professional cinema camera maker ARRI, giving users access to film-style tools directly from the phone.
One of the biggest highlights is a one-tap cinematic video feature that is designed to give everyday clips a more polished movie-like appearance without requiring complicated editing.
Honor is bringing ARRI cinema technology to the Magic 9 series
The Honor Magic 9 series is being developed with ARRI, the German company known for professional digital cinema cameras and filmmaking technology. Honor has already confirmed that the new phones will include an ARRI Cinema Mode as part of their imaging system.
Honor’s latest teasers show that the partnership goes beyond simply adding an ARRI name to the camera system. The Magic 9 series will use ARRI’s approach to color and video production to give recordings a more cinematic look.
The company’s official launch information describes the Magic 9 series as having a three-camera cinema system. It also mentions ARRI LogC3 video processing, cinema-style microphone recording, focus peaking and false-color monitoring. These are tools normally associated with more advanced video production rather than basic smartphone recording.
The Magic 9 series is scheduled to be officially unveiled in Beijing on September 28, 2026. Honor is continuing to reveal individual camera features ahead of the event.
One tap is designed to change the look of a video
The main attraction of the new feature is its simplicity. Honor’s teaser shows users being able to apply different cinematic looks with a single tap while recording video.
Instead of recording ordinary footage and then spending time inside a separate editing app, users can choose a cinematic style directly while using the camera.
The feature is expected to use ARRI’s color technology to control the way colors, highlights and skin tones appear in the finished footage. Honor’s demonstrations have also shown different visual styles, including a black-and-white look and other options that can change the warmth and overall mood of a scene.
That approach could make the feature useful for people who want better-looking videos but do not have experience with professional color editing.
The Magic 9 camera system is built around video as well as photos
Honor is not treating the cinematic mode as an isolated camera effect. The company has revealed a wider set of video tools for the Magic 9 series.
Among the announced features are:
- ARRI Cinema Mode for cinematic video recording
- ARRI LogC3 video processing for a professional-style video workflow
- Focus peaking to help users check whether the subject is in focus
- False-color monitoring to help with exposure while recording
These features give the Magic 9 series a stronger focus on manual and professional video work. Honor has also announced a dedicated cinema microphone system for the Magic 9 Pro Max, aimed at improving sound recording while filming.
For most people, however, the one-tap feature may be easier to understand than the professional tools. The idea is to let users get a more finished-looking result without having to learn every setting.
ARRI’s role could make the feature more than a simple filter
There is an important difference between adding a basic color filter and building a video system around professional cinema technology.
Honor says the Magic 9 series uses ARRI’s cinema color approach and LogC3 video pipeline. Log video is designed to preserve a wider range of image information for later color work. In simple terms, it gives creators more room to adjust the appearance of footage during editing.
Honor previously introduced an ARRI-developed Cinema Mode on its Robot Phone, where the companies worked together on color science and professional video workflows. The Magic 9 series is now bringing that work to Honor’s main flagship line.
The Magic 9 series will therefore offer both a simple route for casual users and more advanced controls for people who want to edit their footage later.
More camera details are already coming into focus
Honor has also revealed several other imaging features as part of its Magic 9 series campaign. The company says the phones will use a cinema-focused three-camera setup and ARRI-developed imaging technology. The company has also promoted a dual 200-megapixel camera system and a 500mm Honor telephoto accessory for long-distance shots.
Another unusual feature is the front camera system. Honor says the Magic 9 series will introduce a square field of view on the front camera, allowing users to hold the phone vertically while recording a wider horizontal-style view. The 55-megapixel front camera is called the “Smart Eye” by Honor, although the company says this particular front-camera feature is available on the Magic 9 and Magic 9 Pro Max models.
This shows that Honor is looking at video from several directions, including color, sound, framing and long-distance recording.
Why the one-tap feature matters
Smartphone cameras have become very good at producing sharp photos and videos automatically. As a result, manufacturers are increasingly trying to make their phones stand out through the way footage looks rather than simply through camera resolution.
Honor’s one-tap cinematic feature takes that approach. A person recording a trip, a family event or a short social-media video can choose a visual style without needing to understand color grading.
At the same time, more advanced users can work with tools such as LogC3, focus peaking and false-color monitoring. This gives the Magic 9 series a wider range of video options instead of limiting the cinematic experience to a simple filter.
The full Magic 9 series will be revealed soon
Honor has confirmed that the Magic 9 series launch event will take place in Beijing on September 28, 2026. The company is expected to reveal the complete camera specifications, models and other hardware details at the event.
Until then, some details remain unconfirmed. Honor has shown the cinematic system and several camera features, but the full specifications and availability for different markets have not yet been provided in the official launch material.
The one-tap cinematic video feature is nevertheless shaping up as one of the key parts of the Magic 9 series. By combining an easy-to-use camera mode with ARRI’s cinema technology, Honor is trying to make professional-looking video more accessible to ordinary smartphone users.
The bigger story is that Honor is treating the phone as more than a device for taking quick clips. With cinematic color tools, professional monitoring features, improved audio and a multi-camera system, the Magic 9 series is being positioned as a phone built with video creation in mind. The September 28 launch should provide the remaining details and show how far Honor has taken that idea.
