Huawei Pura X Max to First-Gen Foldables: User Flaunts the Full Huawei Collection

# Huawei Pura X Max to First-Gen Foldables: User Flaunts the Full Huawei Collection A Huawei fan has shown off an unusually complete collection of the company's foldable devices, covering the journey from the original Mate X to the latest Pura X Max. The collection gives a quick look at how Huawei's foldable phone designs have changed over the years. The photos reportedly show nearly every major Huawei foldable in one place, along with Huawei's foldable MateBook Fold PC. ### A collection that covers Huawei's foldable journey The collection includes both Huawei's book-style foldables and its smaller flip-style phones. It also includes Huawei's tri-fold Mate XT and the newer Pura X series, showing how the company has experimented with several different ways of folding a device. The devices shown in the collection, from left to right, are: * Huawei Pura X Max * Huawei P50 Pocket * Huawei Pocket S * Huawei Pura X * Huawei Mate X * Huawei Mate X2 * Huawei Mate X3 * Huawei Mate X5 * Huawei Mate X6 * Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design * Huawei Mate X7 * Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate Design The collection is notable because it does not focus on just one type of foldable. It includes traditional book-style phones, compact flip phones, a tri-fold smartphone and a foldable computer. ### Huawei Mate X started the journey The Huawei Mate X was introduced in 2019 and became the company's first foldable smartphone. Unlike the book-style phones that followed it, the original Mate X used an outward-folding design. When opened, the Mate X turned into a much larger screen device, while the folding mechanism allowed it to become more compact for carrying. It used Huawei's Kirin 980 processor and had a 4,500mAh battery. The original Mate X was an important starting point for Huawei's foldable phone strategy. Later Mate X models moved toward different hinge designs, thinner bodies and more advanced screens and cameras. ### Mate X2 to Mate X7 show years of changes Huawei continued the Mate X line with the Mate X2, Mate X3, Mate X5, Mate X6 and Mate X7. These generations gradually moved away from the original outward-folding design and adopted the more familiar inward-folding book-style approach. The later phones also focused heavily on making foldables thinner and easier to use as everyday smartphones. The Mate X5, for example, marked a major return of Kirin 5G hardware in Huawei's foldable lineup. By the time the Mate X7 arrived, Huawei had developed a much more mature foldable design, with the company continuing to work on durability, cameras, battery technology and overall size. ### Huawei also built a flip-phone family The collection is not limited to the Mate X series. It also includes the P50 Pocket and Pocket S. The P50 Pocket brought Huawei into the modern clamshell foldable market. Instead of opening like a small book, it folded vertically into a compact shape. The Pocket S followed as a more affordable member of the same general family. These phones showed that Huawei was interested in more than one foldable form factor. The Pura X later took the idea in another direction. It uses a wide folding design, with a 6.3-inch internal screen using a 16:10 aspect ratio and a smaller square outer display. Huawei released the Pura X in China in March 2025. ### Pura X Max brings another wide design At the newest end of the collection is the Huawei Pura X Max. The phone continues Huawei's interest in wider foldable screens but uses a larger design than the original Pura X. The Pura X Max was officially launched in China in April 2026. Its design moves away from the tall and narrow shape common on many earlier book-style foldables. The wider shape is intended to make the opened screen better suited to activities such as watching video and using apps in a more tablet-like layout. The phone can be used in both portrait and landscape orientations when opened. The Pura X Max is available in several colors and was offered with memory and storage configurations reaching 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. ### The collection also includes Huawei's tri-fold phone Another standout device in the collection is the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design. It is different from the company's regular Mate X phones because its display folds in two places instead of one. This gives the Mate XT a much larger unfolded screen while still allowing it to be carried in a folded form. Huawei's tri-fold design became one of the company's most unusual attempts to turn a smartphone into a larger tablet-like device without carrying a separate tablet. Having the Mate XT alongside the earlier Mate X models makes the collection especially interesting because it shows how far Huawei's folding hardware has moved beyond the first generation. ### Huawei's foldable collection at a glance | Device | Type | Main design idea | | ----------------------------- | ------------------- | --------------------------------------- | | Mate X | Book-style foldable | First Huawei foldable, outward folding | | Mate X2 | Book-style foldable | Inward-folding design | | Mate X3 | Book-style foldable | Thinner and lighter design | | Mate X5 | Book-style foldable | Refined flagship foldable with Kirin 5G | | Mate X6 | Book-style foldable | Further design and hardware upgrades | | Mate X7 | Book-style foldable | Newer flagship Mate X generation | | P50 Pocket | Flip foldable | Compact clamshell design | | Pocket S | Flip foldable | More affordable clamshell model | | Pura X | Wide foldable | Wide 16:10 internal screen | | Pura X Max | Wide foldable | Larger wide-format foldable | | Mate XT Ultimate Design | Tri-fold | Two hinges and three folding sections | | MateBook Fold Ultimate Design | Foldable PC | Large foldable computer | ### The MateBook Fold takes the idea beyond phones The collection also includes the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, showing that Huawei's folding technology is not limited to smartphones. The MateBook Fold is a foldable PC designed to provide a much larger display when opened while remaining portable when folded. Huawei has described it as the world's first foldable PC powered by HarmonyOS. Its presence in the collection adds another part to Huawei's foldable story. The company has moved from folding smartphones to experimenting with much larger computing devices. ### What the collection says about Huawei's foldable strategy Looking across the devices, Huawei's approach to foldables has clearly changed over time. The original Mate X was focused on proving that a large smartphone could fold. Later Mate X models concentrated on improving the basic book-style design. The P50 Pocket and Pocket S showed a different direction, using a vertical fold to make a normal-sized phone much smaller. The Pura X then introduced a wider shape, while the Mate XT pushed the technology toward a three-part display. The Pura X Max continues that experimentation with a larger wide-screen design. Instead of simply making another traditional book-style foldable, Huawei is trying to rethink what the ideal unfolded phone should look like. ### A rare look at Huawei's foldable history in one place For most users, these phones have appeared one generation at a time. Seeing them together makes the changes much easier to understand. From the outward-folding Mate X to the inward-folding Mate X generations, from the compact P50 Pocket to the wide Pura X Max, and finally to the tri-fold Mate XT and foldable MateBook, the collection captures several major stages of Huawei's foldable hardware development. The user's collection is therefore more than a group of expensive phones. It is a visual record of Huawei's effort to explore different shapes and uses for foldable technology. The latest Pura X Max sits at the newest end of that journey, while the original Mate X remains a reminder of where Huawei's foldable story began.
